So you want to have a shed built. Great! But you’re not quite sure what’s going to happen next. More often than not, the shed building process will start with a series of questions that your provider might ask you.

You might think, “Questions?! But I need someone who will have answers to all MY questions!” Don’t worry. The questions aren’t there to make life harder for you. In fact, they’re there to make things a whole lot easier. By asking you questions, your builder becomes equipped with the right information to make the shed that you need the most. And we know that’s an extra step for you.

That’s why we’ve prepared a simple questionnaire based on the first discovery questions asked of our clients. Its purpose is to provide us with exact details that eliminate any guesswork and make the procedure foolproof. If your shed builder isn’t asking you these questions, you need to question your shed builder!

Our guide on how to build a shed helps provide answers that would be sought at the first consultation – but the questionnaire shortcuts all that. It’s ergonomic. You save time and so do we.

Based on the Questionnaire, we can provide you with a ballpark figure, and if you feel that’s a discussion point, then all it takes is a phone call or follow-up email

1. WHAT’S THE CLIMATE LIKE IN THE AREA YOUR SHED WILL BE BUILT?

Is your zone dry, sub-tropical, high rainfall, snow country, high wind, or any other climate? Water and heat can play a big part in your shed engineering to ensure you get a great quality product.

2. WHAT’S THE LOCATION OF YOUR FUTURE SHED?

Are you living urban in a city, or way out in the sticks? Councils all have different laws which need to be considered, delivery and construction, even connecting some sheds to utilities can be a challenge in different environments. It’s as they say, there are three important parts to site preparation: location, location, and location.

3. WHAT ARE YOUR ALLOTMENT DIMENSIONS?

Council plans, building diagrams and utility maps are important to define where you can build and what other work might need to be done, and make sure we don’t hit a power main or sewerage pipe!

4. WHAT’S THE TERRAIN LIKE ON THE LAND YOUR SHED WILL BE ON?

Urban, hilly, flat, steep, or any other type let us know and we’ll factor it in.

 5. WHAT TYPE OF SHED IS REQUIRED?

Tool shed, or garden shed? Do you need a garage or carport, and how many vehciles will you need to put inside them? Do you need a farm shed, workshop, warehouse, stable or barn? How about commercial office space, or industrial complex? There are so much choices you’ll need a granny flat or holiday cabin to relax after making up your mind!

6. WHAT ARE THE DESIRED DIMENSIONS OF YOUR SHED?

Describe what you plan to use your shed for. Do you need to park a large tractor, a couple of 4-wheel drives, and some space for a workbench and toolbox?

7. WHERE WILL YOUR PROPOSED SHED ACCESS BE LOCATED?

Do you live on a suburban street? Is it a through-road, cul-de-sac, or a corner address? Is your driveway steep and rough, or offers easy paved access?

8. WHAT DIMENSIONS WILL THE DOORS AND WINDOWS BE?

Think you’ll need some double doors for entry and exit? What about how many windows you’re after to let some light and air in. Don’t forget about single doors for people to get in and out easily.

9. WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS FOR YOUR SHED?

What are you thinking you’ll be doing into the future? Will you be increasing the size of your cattle herd or crop production next year and need to include stock feed storage, more farm machinery, or bigger machinery? Even little stuff like going from a push bike to a small car and having the room for that under a roof is worth considering.
A good builder needs to know these things so you get the best shed not just for today, but for the next 20 years.

9. ANY PERSONAL BELIEFS WE SHOULD TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION?

We’ve worked with companies and individuals who have certain personal and cultural traditions and beliefs they wanted to keep. That’s just as important as any technical consideration to us. That’s because it’s going to be your shed. If you believe in Feng Shui, then make sure that your shed builder knows that.

When we talk, we’ll happily go through the details with you, so you get into your Real Aussie Shed sooner.

Also, check out our online guide for a more detailed explanation of the Shed Questionnaire. We can explain what we do, how we do it and why we believe we do it so much better.

YOU NEED PEACE OF MIND, NOT JUST A SHED.
